It’s unique in it’s design in that the city was planned where the streets radiate from the center like spokes from a wheel so that you can reach the entire region! Believe it or not but the capitol here is rumored to have been the inspiration for the United States’ design of it’s capital.

There’s also a dreamlike quality of this city and for good reason as rumor also has it that the city came from the dream of the Margrave Charles III William, Margrave of Baden-Durlach who in 1715 built the city based on this dream. The city now has a population closing in on 300,000 people, sits on 67 square miles/173 square kilometers and sits right there on the eastern shore of the Rhine.

Known as the “Fan City” because of the spoke like design, there are 32 of these roads leading from the capitol. This city is also known as the justice center of the country! It’s here great laws and the foundation of current German laws were laid down.
