Nuremberg Christmas Market

Known locally as the Christkindlesmarkt, this famous market, held in the middle of the city on the Nuremberg Main Market square, attracts tourists from all over the country and from other parts of the world too. Do not hurry or you will not be able to visit each and every of the 200 wooden stalls, decorated with traditional white and red clothes.

The sheer varieties of art and crafts products are overwhelming. You can find on display typical Christmas items like Christmas tree angels, candles, and ornaments along with toys used to decorate Christmas trees. Nuremberg is famous for its sweets, bakery goods like spicy gingerbread & fruit loaves. Remember to try them out.

This is also the best opportunity to check out the famous roast sausages of Nuremberg. Wash them down with mugs of mulled beer. Special prizes are awarded to the three best stalls of the market and this is what motivates them to show off their best. Do not expect to find plastic fir garlands in this market since the market department bans them.

Do not forget to purchase souvenirs like `Nuremberg Prune People,’ locally known as “Zwetcshgenmännle,” which are small plum figures dressed as devils or chimneysweeps. Following an old tradition, only 14 stalls sell these figures.
